Caveoso Hotel

Hotel nel bel mezzo del sasso Caveoso, posizione ottima per chi vuole pernottare nell'area dei sassi, dunque nella parte vecchia della città. Tutti i principali luoghi di interesse sono raggiungibili a piedi: è di fronte alla chiesa di S.Pietro Caveoso, ai piedi della collinetta della Chiesa di idris, tutte le stradine riconducono in città, con al massimo 10-15 min di cammino.
Colazione buona, non vastissima la scelta,marginale l'l'opzione salata.
Junior suite molto caratteristiche,meravigliosa la vista panoramica, ma rapportate al prezzo dovrebbero presentare una maggiore cura per i dettagli (polvere in qualche angolo, tavoletta wc scolorita, asciugamani non bianchissime, tenda balconcino un pò lisa con qualche buchino). I canali sky non si vedono, solo quelli in chiaro Efficiente il servizio parcheggio privato (a pagamento: 20€/giorno) con ritiro e riconsegna auto davanti all'hotel. Accoglienza alla reception non particolarmente cordiale.

Characteristic place, good for one night stay. When we arrived the girl at reception was very good, next morning the man at breakfast and check out was not in a good mood.
Rooms clean and comfortable, no amenity in the bath as usual Italian hotels. Only shampoo and a small soap.
Breakfast OK, no car park at hotel because in the old part of the city, but very close to reach by car for drop the luggages. One minute walk from Piazza San Pietro.

Four stars because the location, views, etc are amazing. Room and bathroom spacious, comfortable and clean. However staff were the least helpful we found in the whole of Italy. Our taxi driver was more friendly and enthusiastic!

The Hotel is amazing! Breathtaking even....I will not give a 5 Star because I think that the Hotel can offer more attention or a better service at the reception.
Otherwise I can only confirm that everything is very fine.
Location is great and everything is within a walking distance, the Parking, good restaurants as well as both Sassi parts of Matera (Sassi Barisano und Sassi Caveoso). The Breakfast is excellent as well.

We visited Matera for a day and stayed overnight at the Caveosso in the middle of a visit to friends in Calomezzati, a couple of hours away. Matera is supposedly one of the longest continually inhabited towns in the world and we thought it would be worth a visit. We booked the Caveosso as it is mostly built into the caves - as is most of the town - and it is in the older, original part of Matera. Just getting a car down the narrow, winding streets was a feat in itself! If you drive to the hotel, please take care! Once in the hotel we were greeted by the Italian Basil Faulty, he bumbled about and lost his pen and generally made us smile with his laid back, Mediterranean attitude. We all managed to check in though, and made our way to our rooms in the caves and they were fabulous! Hotel rooms hewn out of the very rock! They were generally open plan with a separate shower and all were different! Because of the nature of the rooms, they had dehumidifiers that need to be emptied every few hours, as the water simply seeps through the rock.
Breakfast the following morning though, was typically Continental, with breads and conserves etc and a small bowl of cornflakes but no hot food. All in all, a very memorable visit!
