OMG. What a waste of time and money getting a highlighting done. Under-processed and overpriced. Oh, and the only thing that was properly "bleached" was my shirt. Dirty capes every time and no order when trying to check in, check out or just ask a question. Poor showing Beauty Basics, Inc., d/b/a Aveda Institute South. Bad business!

Aveda Institute LOST MY JACKET and offered no solution or compensation of any kind, they just said I must have taken it with me and shrug, the way they handle it poorly and in a very unprofessional way. I got there and after I sat down i was offered to give my jacket so that they could hang it while I got my hair done (coloring). Not only it took them nearly 7 hours (yes 7, and I have straight black hair... Nothing too special or hard to handle) WRONG, but after I left and returned a few minutes later after realizing they didn't give me my jacket back they said they didn't have it and that they would get back to me on it. They didn't, I was the one calling and following up every day, and after the third day they started saying "we never hung it up, we put it behind your seat and you took it with you". Awful experience.

I get haircuts here and have had mixed experiences. Most of the time, my appointments start 10-15 minutes late, which I understand because there are a lot of people coming to the salon. One time my appointment got canceled 5 minutes before it was supposed to start though and they were unable to reschedule me in store, I had to call. The haircuts take long but usually I'm happy with the result, it helps if you take a picture with you of what you want. Getting my highlights took 4 hours though, while my hair is only chin length. The student also spilled dye on my hair, so I had blond spots at certain places. 50% of the students I've had have been very nice and helpful, the other 50% seemed bored. I think the quality of your service really depends on who your stylist is, so ask for an upper level student!

First time going in about 3 years. The intake process is ridiculous; come at least 15 minutes early just to get checked in. Everyone is very nice, but the scheduling is extremely inefficient. I scheduled two services - a one hour facial and a haircut - back to back. The facial started 15 minutes late and had to be cut short to make the haircut. (The facial quality was a 3/5 at best, though the student was very pleasant. I had tons of mask in my hair and on my face as I left.) They were running behind with lunches for the students and I had to wait 15 minutes to be asked if I could wait at least another 15 minutes for my assigned student to return. Then I was told that another student was "3 minutes away." I waited another 10 minutes for giving up on the haircut after seeing the student return with her fast food lunch. In total, I spent 2 hours at Aveda for a subpar 40-minute facial.

I know that it is a school, but scheduling stole the show. I am so disappointed at how downhill the school has gone in the last few years.

Great experience here. Only challenge to having your hair cut/colored at a beauty school is the lack of continuity with a stylist, however I've always had good experiences with the cut and color. It's a great location and resource for those that enjoy aveda products and a reasonably priced haircut.
