It stands out as a not too rowdy sports bar with a good beer selection and better than average food as best. If you are in search of food only, I think there are better options than this in the neighborhood.

Constantly changing tap list always full of great, often local, craft beers. Laid back environment with good bar food.

ALewife isn't what it used to be. I'm rooting for them to be successful but what the hell. The beer selection is great but they got rid of the daily specials! Why? And what happened to the dessert menu?? I was really disappointed by Alewife today. It's my number one spot to visit when I'm in the city but it's just not the same. The garlic fries barely had any garlic! I really thought that the waitress forgot what I ordered then I noticed some white stuff scattered here and there on the fries (the garlic). The standards have dropped here man.

Awesome place. One of the best beer selections in NYC, hands down. The have happy hour every weekday except Friday, and it is not on crappy beer either. All of the food is good, I have eaten most of it. The Irish nachos are great, wings are great, quesadillas, all of the meat-based tacos (never tried the veggie ones), etc. The staff is pretty cool, always nice and knowledgeable about beers. It is a good place to watch sports as they have many TVs. I always stay downstairs because I never feel like walking up a staircase when I don't have to, but I think there might be a fireplace upstairs.
Bonus- the rotating beer menu is written in a funny and entertaining way. And they have bingo and trivia some nights, although I've never been
