The music is just killing....from pavarotti to andre hazes and as a cherry on the cake celine dion....overcooked waffels in a cafe "famous" for waffles :-(

As a local Ghentian I can tell you: NEVER go here. Overpriced, and you're better off in Pakhuis not far away.
Today we tried Max for the last time. We entered for a waffle and the patron told us off by saying 'this is not a picnic', because I had a water bottle with me. Eager to do away with it he kept rejecting us and being unfriendly.
This business is a waste of time and a thorn in the eye of the Ghentian. Seeing their reviews here it literally surprises me they haven't gone bust already. A pity because I remember this place was very good ten years ago. Sad.
As a local Ghentian I can tell you: NEVER go here. Overpriced, and you're better off in Pakhuis not far away.

The staff was very disliked and rude.
2 bartenders who spoke badly in Dutch behind a Chinese girl, who was there for eating...
Really cold and not friendly environment.
I will never be back and I will not recommend the place to anyone.
At Gent there are plenty of nice and good cafes

Awful service from waiters who treat you with disdain until they collect your money at which time they are painfully polite. Awful waffles, hard and dry. My son scraped the roof of his mouth and could not finish half of his burnt waffle. I wish I were joking. Save your money and get treated with respect by walking down the street to the right of Max and entering the bustling square. We bought our second round of waffles from a street vendor and they were delicious.

Do not recommend. The waffles are overpriced and average although they look appetizing. We expected some soft spongy waffles, but these were hard, airy and super crumbly without too much taste. Lucky the fresh fruit on top and the ice cream managed to save the deal somewhat.
