Every year thousands of tourists come to visit the museums and the numerous historical buildings or monuments around the city, crowding city streets, shops, restaurants and so on.
Cultura Italian art has engendered great public interest and involvement, resulting in the consistent production of monumental and spectacular works. In addition, Italian art has nearly always been closely allied with the intellectual and/or religious currents of its day while retaining its own remarkable past as a continual source of inspiration. Florence is called the capital of arts; according to statistics produced by UNESCO, 60% of the world's most important works of art are located in Italy and approximately half of these are in Florence.
From the 13th to the 16th century it was a seemingly endless source of creative masterpieces and Italian genius. Both Dante and Michelangelo were born here. Boccaccio wrote his 'Decameron' in Florence. The Italian Renaissance, Europe's richest cultural period, began in Florence when the artist Brunelleschi finished the Duomo, with the huge dome.
Sights It is apparent to anyone who visits Florence that this is where Italian genius in the arts truly began. In fact, from the 13th century to the 16th century the city of Florence influenced all of Europe and later the world with the period to be named "The Renaissance" or new beginning. You could easily spend a week or more exploring all the basilicas, architecture and renaissance art and not touch the surface of what was created here. Listed below are the "Must See" Florence Italy sights and attractions. They're not listed in any particular order but try to get to as many of these sights as you can. This combination of basilicas, bridges and gardens will be permanently ingrained in your memory and remain with you until you take your last breath on this earth.
Shopping In Florence, Fashion is a type of art, that is part of the city's cultural heritage. Only in Florence you can find stores and boutiques of the most important Florentine designers: Ferragamo, Cavalli, Gucci, Prada, Enrico Coveri, Patrizia Pepe, Emilio Pucci, who represent Italian fashion in the world. Through your interest in fashion, Florentine shopping will bring you to Ponte Vecchio that, thanks to its precious jewelleries, represents the heart of the artisan Florence. The Goldsmith art is famous all around the world and still today preserves the original characteristics.
The Antiquarians are one of the Florence’s treasures: every 2 years we have the International Antiques Biennal. The street for antiques is Via Maggio: some of the furnishings and objets of art that you can find here are from the 16th century.
Restoraun Hotels in Italy don't usually have restaurants, and when they do, they can rarely compete with the excellent eating establishments you'll find on every street. Eating is a serious business in Italy; people eat out more often, and for much less money, than in the UK. Italians are advanced food critics, as well as being cost-conscious, so the best recommendation for any restaurant is the presence of locals. In the centre of Florence, where tourist traps abound, it can be harder to find a good local trattoria. But it's not impossible: walk around a few streets at dinner time (after 8pm, if you can wait that long), comparing menus, atmosphere and clientele. Follow recommendations in guidebooks if you wish, but it can be much more fun to make your own discoveries.
